Manifesto

Large mission organizations (the likes of InterVarsity, Campus Crusade for Christ, Youth for Christ) have large technology needs. These organizations share a common set of needs that are unique from the typical business world. People are the bottom line, not profit. Accountability, discipleship and developing spiritual leaders are highly valued, to the end of reaching the world for Christ.

The problem is that publicly available software is not well suited to these needs. Software developed for a corporate entity doesn’t scale well to hundreds of self-sufficient local level ministries operating under an umbrella of national leadership. So we find ourselves turning towards developing custom solutions. Unfortunately, most Christian mission organizations don’t make very good software companies.

I believe we can do better. I believe there are enough passionate hackers (wikipedia) and designers out there who, with a little cooperation and a little direction, can implement solutions that will enable us to reach the world for Christ like never before. No more managing your student involvement in an excel spreadsheet. No more using pen and paper to apply for summer mission trips. Let’s bring our mission organizations into the 21st century.

How:

  1. Develop everything as free open source. We believe solutions can be developed better and faster with an open source model.
  2. Be passionate. Passionate people produce quality results.

With those two ingredients I believe we can meet the largest of the software needs shared by large mission organizations.
